Profile: In 1970, Catherine (Cathy) L. Schulze and her husband William (Bill) H. Schulze persuaded administrators at San Francisco State University to expand their language offerings to students with a program on Esperanto. The program was established as the North America Summer Esperanto Institute / Nord-Amerika Somera Kursaro (NASK). From the very beginning, NASK was envisioned to meet two objectives: to train new Esperanto instructors and improve the language levels of US Esperantists.

NASK moved to the University of San Francisco in 2001 and between 2002 and 2006 it relocated to The School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 2007, the program returned to California and took up residence at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) with the help of ESF Director and UCSD professor Grant Goodall.

In addition to managing the various administrative responsibilities, my chief role now is to help students who want to participate in NASK: specifically, those who wish to apply for scholarship assistance. I also arrange accommodations for both instructors and students with the university conference centre.
